Spiritual Front is an Italian neo-folk music group, formed in Rome in 1999, whose music is reminiscent of Nick Cave, Swans and The Smiths, using elements of ethno and gypsy music, rock, tango and country music to create a unique musical mix that has made the band one of the most respected Italian alternative music acts.
The album Armageddon Gigolo (2006) was recorded in Herzog Studio, where Abel Ferrara recorded music for his films, and featured the collaboration of some members of Ennio Morricone’s orchestra. These contexts only underline the band members’ strong relationship to cinema (in particular to the work of Pasolini, Fassbinder, Martin Scorsese, Luchino Visconti and, in general, to the western films of Sergio Leone).
Their music has been used in the American TV series Las Vegas and in the thriller Saw II – A Game of Survival, and has been used by many short film makers.
In the course of their career, the band has played in many countries around the world and at major music festivals such as the Wave Gotik Treffen and the Heineken Jammin Festival. They played as the only Italian band on the legendary German TV show Rockpalast, which also featured such stars as David Bowie, U2, Oasis, Guns and Roses and others. Their latest album, 2023, is a tribute to the English band The Smiths.
Simone Salvatori, the charismatic singer and founder of the band, fronts the band, which will perform for the first time in Bratislava as part of the Dolce Vitaj festival.
