The weekend full of experiences and urban culture “Bratislava City Days” is here.
On the third weekend of April, 20-21 April, the streets of the capital will come alive with a popular festival.
For 22 years, city organisations, institutions, businesses and districts have been working together to create an unforgettable weekend programme in different parts and locations of the city.
The tradition of why the city opens up to its residents and visitors on St. George’s Day is linked to the history of Bratislava. According to the city privileges, since the 13th century the townspeople of Prešpork could freely elect the town mayor and their representatives on 24 April. This unique municipal privilege in Europe at that time was associated with celebrations and informal meetings between the representatives of the town hall and the inhabitants of the royal city.
The streets once again came alive with a colourful programme. This year and you can look forward to musical performances, unique shows, performances for children and adults and access to many interesting places. The theme of sustainability is also topical and will be addressed through children’s workshops, adult workshops and the popular bazaars and swap. It’s time to enjoy the city to the full!
The weekend full of experiences will open with the symbolic unsealing of the gates and the opening of the Primate’s Palace to the public; the premises of the city’s organisations – the gallery, museum, library and others – will also be opened.
On Primatial Square you will find a community table and a gastronomic offer, in the courtyards there are board games and a chess academy, on Main Square there are performances by children from Bratislava’s ZUŠ and on Franciscan Square there is an antiques bazaar.
During the weekend you will experience several street shows, concerts, sightseeing cruises on the Danube or rides on the Cabriobus. The legendary Propeller will be running between the Old Town waterfront and the Janka Kráľa Garden, and the popular Good Market on Panenská Street will also be part of the city days.
On Saturday evening, Hviezdoslav Square will be illuminated by the Phoenix Garden of the Czech art group V.O.S.A. Theater.
You can look forward to an interactive light installation, live singing, as well as light and acrobatic performances.
