Open Cellars Day

  • 24.11.2023 - 25.11.2023
  • Events, What to do in Bratislava

On 24 and 25 November, the winemakers of the Small Carpathian region invite you to their cellars. Come and enjoy young wines – this year’s wines, as well as those that have been aging in barrels for a few months.

Open Cellars Day has been opening its cellars for you for 22 years. And what were the first ones like? They took place on 11.11.2000 on the day when we celebrate the feast of St. Martin and the St. Martin’s Day blessing of the wines takes place. Seventeen cellars were opened and 500 people visited them. It is difficult to compare the cellars with today’s beautiful and representative premises of many winemakers.

The beginning of your wine journey or your wanderings can be in Devín, where you can taste not only grape wines but also typical currant wines, of which the Devín inhabitants are so proud of. The best Frankovka in the region can be tasted in Rača.

Svätý Jur offers the most historical cellars. The oldest cellar is the Renaissance House, which already 500 years ago awakened people’s appetite for a sip of wine in its stone cellars. For the first time, you will have the opportunity to see the newly renovated beautiful Pállfy Manor House. From Svätý Jur via the stop in Grinava, you will have a glimpse into the old wine-grower’s vaulted house from 1887. Just opposite, however, you will find a modern wine schowroom for comparison. The wine road leads on through Limbach, where don’t forget to taste the famous Limbašský silván. Pezinok will welcome you with the majestic Castle Cellar. Modra, a typical wine town, has the most cellars, which you can easily pass on foot, and the last town is Trnava, where you will visit one of the most famous wineries in the region. Of course, your journey can start here as well. There are many cellars, each of them is different, in each of them you will find a unique story of a winemaker…

But the Open Cellar Day is not just about wine, it’s about the beautiful vineyard-studded landscape, the regional gastronomy, often prepared by a skillful winemaker, the accompanying programme, where music plays in the cellars to accompany a glass of wine. Over the course of two days, history alternates with the present and opens its doors and gates to 130 cellars in 25 towns and villages in the Lesser Carpathian region.

We will open for you 130 of the most beautiful cellars on the Lesser Carpathian Wine Route
