On Saturday, November 23, 2024, starting at 10:00, the Czech Museum of Music in Malá Strana will celebrate 20 years since its relocation to the former Baroque Church of St. Mary Magdalene.
To mark this occasion, the museum invites visitors to an open day featuring a rich program full of music, creativity, and extraordinary experiences.
Visitors can look forward to guided tours of the building, taking them from the cellar to the attic. This unique experience offers a glimpse into the hidden corners of the museum and its historical collections. Additionally, there will be tours of the Man – Instrument – Music exhibition, showcasing the evolution of musical instruments and their impact on the creation of music.
Families with children will surely enjoy art workshops inspired by the On Tour exhibition, a listening corner with historical recordings, and a meeting with a master violin maker in his workshop. These activities highlight not only the beauty of music but also its craftsmanship and history.
The day will conclude with a concert by the Pueri Gaudentes choir at 6:00 PM. This prestigious choir will perform works by Czech composers, including Bedřich Smetana, whose compositions were created despite his complete deafness. The program will also feature African spirituals and Italian Renaissance polyphony. The concert will be unique thanks to the integration of visual art in the form of Czech sign language interpretation, allowing the deaf community to experience music through “singing hands.”
Admission to all activities, including the concert, is free. This event promises an extraordinary blend of history, music, and modern inclusivity.
