Mayale of Museums

On May 16–17, 2026, one of Hungary’s largest museum events returns to the Hungarian National Museum. The Museum May Festival brings together museums, professionals and visitors for a two-day cultural gathering.

The event is connected to International Museum Day, organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). This year’s theme – “Museums connect a divided world” – reflects the festival’s goal of creating dialogue and shared experiences.

Museums as living spaces

One of the key ideas behind the event is that museums are not just places to display objects, but active community spaces. Participating institutions demonstrate how the past can help us understand the present and shape future conversations.

Many programs are interactive, encouraging visitors to engage rather than just observe.
