Prague’s National Gallery is also celebrating International Women’s Day. They have prepared thematic exhibitions of works by Pepa Mařáková, Charlotta Piepenhagenová or Zdeňka Braunerová.

Guided tour – Why are there so few women artists in the 19th century?
A themed guided tour on the occasion of International Women’s Day in the exhibition 1796-1918. Join the lecturer to see works by Pepa Mařáková, Charlotte Piepenhagen and Zdeňka Brauner and reflect on the contemporary context of the position of women artists within the 19th century.

Guided Tour – Goddesses and Heroines in the Works of Old European Masters
Female figures are often the bearers of moral messages, social allegories and hidden meanings. Let’s decode the messages contained in the dramatic scenes of Lucretia’s and Zephonisba’s suicide, the ambiguity of the tragic figure of Salome, Judith’s sacrifice of her own virtue to save her people, and the cruelty of the goddess Artemis. A guided tour of selected paintings in the permanent exhibition with NG lecturer Markéta Ježková.
