Neustift Kirtag Vienna

From August 20 to 23, 2026, the romantic Neustift am Walde in Vienna’s 19th district will once again be transformed into a celebration of tradition, music, and Viennese wine. 

The Neustift Kirtag is one of the city’s oldest and most popular Heurigen festivals – with decorated streets, festive parades, and over 100 stalls serving regional specialties and excellent wine.

The highlight is the ceremonial procession with the Hauerkrone (Hauer Crown), accompanied by historical figures such as the “Altbursch” (Old Boys), the “Weinhiata” (Weinhiata), and the “Flascherlbuben” (Flascherlbuben). This vibrant tradition dates back to Empress Maria Theresa and was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2020.

Visitors can expect an atmospheric program with music, traditional costumes, culinary delights, and a lovingly decorated street festival around Rathstraße. Whether for a leisurely visit to a Heurigen (wine tavern) or to join in the festivities during the parades, the Kirtag (fair festival) offers a special summer experience for all ages.

The Sunday marks the celebratory conclusion of this traditional festival with the symbolic raising of the Hauerkrone (crown) and the end of the harvest.
