Every year, the open-air cinema at Karlsplatz, in the heart of Vienna, offers an excellent selection of films. From 6 to 19 July, a different movie is screened every evening. Screenings begin at 9:00 PM, and admission is free.

The outdoor cinema in the gardens of the Austrian Film Archive has been running since 25 June and continues throughout the summer until 30 August. The programme combines beloved classics with exciting rediscoveries, accompanied by engaging film discussions under the stars.

This summer, the festival features two outdoor venues. Alongside the well-known Natural Arena, the new Open Air Atrium will also host screenings for the first time.
Sunset Cinema is a summer open-air cinema organised by WIENXTRA Cinemagic in cooperation with VOLXkino.
This year’s screenings take place on selected dates in popular Vienna parks, including Weghuber Park (7th district), Sigmund Freud Park (9th district), and USUS am Wasser. Although only a handful of screenings are scheduled, admission is free.
The programme is curated by young people for young people, featuring cult favourites from the 1990s and 2000s.

The Stumm & Laut Film Festival combines silent films with live electronic music.
From 20–22 August, classic silent films and rediscovered gems will be screened outdoors with free admission.
Location: Columbusplatz, 1100 Vienna
Start time: 8:00 p.m.
The unique atmosphere created by the live musical accompaniment makes this festival particularly special.
Between 16 July and 13 August, markets across Vienna are transformed into open-air cinemas.

From 4 July to 6 September 2026, Europe’s largest cultural and culinary festival returns to Vienna’s City Hall Square.
The 36th Film Festival opens on 4 July with:

The festival features an impressive programme of concert films, opera productions, classical performances, and musical highlights, all shown on a giant outdoor screen.

The 14th edition of this international architecture film festival presents documentary, short, and experimental films free of charge in the courtyard of the Architecture Centre Vienna.
This year’s theme: Building Democracy
