From April 13 to 20, 2025, the Cathedral of St. Vitus, Wenceslas, and Adalbert at Prague Castle will become the main center of Easter celebrations in Prague.
As part of Holy Week, it will offer a series of liturgical ceremonies that connect the profound spiritual message of Easter with the magnificent historical setting of the most important Czech cathedral.
The program will begin on Palm Sunday, April 13, with solemn Masses celebrated by Canon Mons. Milan Hanuš and Archbishop Jan Graubner. Visitors can participate not only in the Masses but also in the evening vespers.
On Maundy Thursday, April 17, the morning will feature the Missa Chrismatis, during which the Archbishop blesses the oils used throughout the year for the sacraments. In the evening, a Mass commemorating the Lord’s Supper will follow, along with a symbolic procession to the Garden of Gethsemane in the Church of All Saints, recalling Jesus’s last night.
Good Friday is dedicated to silent contemplation, sung morning prayers, the Way of the Cross, and the evening liturgy of the Passion of the Lord, featuring a dramatic performance of the Passion according to John and a reading from the early Christian text Peri Pascha by Melito of Sardis.
On Holy Saturday, April 19, morning prayers and meditation at the Holy Sepulchre will continue, culminating in the evening Easter Vigil, which is the pinnacle of Easter anticipation and joy.
The celebrations will culminate on Sunday, April 20, Easter Sunday, with solemn Masses for the Resurrection of the Lord, celebrated by Fr. Josef Sudor and Archbishop Jan Graubner. The day will conclude with evening vespers led by Bishop Václav Malý.
Throughout Good Friday and Holy Saturday, the Church of All Saints will offer the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation or to engage in silent personal prayer.
The Easter liturgies at St. Vitus Cathedral offer a unique spiritual experience and a chance to visit one of the most beautiful sacred sites in Central Europe during its most significant liturgical period.
