From March 13–19, 2025, the 14th edition of the East Doc Platform will take place at the French Institute in Prague, running alongside the One World Festival.
This prestigious event will showcase a selection of unique documentary projects from both Czech and international filmmakers, offering an opportunity for directors, producers, distributors, and other key figures in the documentary scene to connect. In addition to the professional program, the festival will also feature a range of open events for the public.
This year’s theme, Still Human?, explores pressing ethical questions related to the use of artificial intelligence and new technologies in documentary storytelling. The sub-theme Are You Still Here? invites audiences to reflect on how truly connected we are to the reality around us in an era where human rights issues are often reduced to mere data and statistics.
The East Doc Platform traditionally highlights Czech documentary filmmaking. Czech projects have been selected for the main sections—East Doc Forum, East Silver Market, and East Doc Market. A special event of this year’s edition will be Czech Docs: Coming Soon, held on Monday, March 17, from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Kino 35 of the French Institute. This public event will present five upcoming Czech feature-length documentaries nearing their premieres, giving their creators a chance to find international partners, distributors, or funding.
The lineup includes Who’s Missing Today? by director Květa Chaloupková, which follows ornithologist Luboš Peške and his relationship with nature. Land on Fire by director Nikola Klinger takes viewers to British Columbia, Canada, where a grieving father embarks on a quest for justice for his murdered daughter. Another featured film is Juliana Moska’s How Long Until We Go Extinct?, which explores human diversity and stereotypes about minorities.
The fourth film, No Man’s Zones by directors Viera Čákanyová, Lucia Kašová, and Barbora Sliepková, examines Slovakia’s largest environmental disasters and their connection to bureaucratic systems. Rounding out the selection is Death to Death! by director Davis Simanis, which follows the filmmaker’s personal journey to extend life and confront his existential fear of death.
East Doc Platform 2025 will not only present inspiring film projects but also encourage deeper reflection on the current state of documentary filmmaking and its future in a technology-driven world.
