Festival Malá inventura 2026, taking place from 19 to 28 February 2026, will offer a unique cross-section of the most interesting premiere productions of the past year and present current forms of new and experimental theatre.

Over the course of ten festival days, the programme will be spread across 16 venues in Prague and will present a total of 26 productions. Malá inventura traditionally opens space for a wide range of theatrical forms – from physical, dance, visual and non-verbal theatre, through puppet, object, documentary and participatory projects, to interactive, vocal and cross-over works. This year’s edition will also feature unconventional formats such as an alternative chamber opera, stand-up, puppet rap, performances on roller skates, a six-hour performance, a rave party, a scenic concert, and a performative audio walk in nature.

The featured productions often reflect current social and political issues. They address topics such as the crisis of democracy, the position of women in society, environmental concerns, the situation in Russia, LGBT+ themes, youth involvement in culture, and, in this Olympic year, sport as well. The festival thus functions not only as an artistic showcase, but also as a space for dialogue about the world around us.

However, Malá inventura is not only about theatre performances. An integral part of the programme includes discussions with artists, networking events, themed walks, play areas for children, and professional workshops for theatre practitioners. These professionals have the opportunity to select productions for further presentation in regional venues or abroad. The festival centre will once again be Archa+, providing a hub for meetings, exchange of experience and the creation of new collaborations.

Festival Malá inventura has long served as a retrospective of the most significant premieres in the field of new theatre and makes a substantial contribution to the development of artistic diversity in the Czech Republic. It gives space to both established creators and new faces of the independent scene, while also mapping the network of theatre producers and venues that support innovative and socially relevant work.

Malá inventura 2026 is an ideal opportunity for anyone who wants to discover contemporary theatre without genre boundaries and experience productions that respond to today’s world with courage, creativity and openness. If you are drawn to theatre that surprises, provokes and inspires, this festival should definitely not be missing from your February calendar.
