Bees, honey and beekeeping – this all will be discussed this Saturday on 25 May in NZM Praha – Prague 7.

The programme is packed and will include workshops for children and adults.

Honey breakfast
When: 10:00-11:30
Let’s kick off Honey Day in style – join us in the museum courtyard for a honey breakfast! And what will the menu be like? Butter and honey single cakes decorated with meadow flowers, Honeydew Original cubes, and several types of tea, which you can sweeten with honey from our bees on the roof terrace.

We would like to thank Vizard, the manufacturer of the original honey cubes, for providing the honey cubes.

Bees – a story of discovery and experience

When: 10:00-11:30 and 13:00-16:00

For children and adults

Duration: 20 minutes

Come and try out fun challenges from the world of bees. A bee quiz, a sidewalk maze, a mystery exploration and honey treats await you.

The workshop is organised in cooperation with Bees on Roofs and Machovi Beekeeping.

Wasp, bee or hornet?
When: 10:00-11:30 and 13:00-16:00
For children and adults
Length: 20 minutes

Meet the beekeepers from the Prague City Forests to learn about both farmed and wild pollinators. You will learn how to distinguish between wasp and hornet nests, see what bee work that is not built in frames looks like, see and touch some types of bee hives. In the glass viewing hive, you’ll observe bee life, examine the anatomy of a bee under a microscope, and get a close look at the parasitic mite Varroa destructor, or bee mite, which attacks bees and causes the disease varroasis. You’ll learn how to treat bees, but also how to help yourself if you get stung.

The workshop is realized with the Forest of the Capital City of Prague.

Bees up close
When: 10:00-11:30 and 13:00-16:00
For children over 3 years and adults
Duration: 25 minutes

Experienced beekeepers from the Beekeeping Association for Prague 6 and 7 will show you bees not only in a portable hive, but also under a microscope, explain the basic rules and intricacies of their breeding and give you a taste of different types of honey.

The workshop is realized in cooperation with the Beekeeping Association for Prague 6 and 7.

(Un)known pollinators
When: 10:00-11:30 and 13:00-16:00
For whom: children and adults
Length: 20 minutes

Members of the Czech Union of Nature Conservationists will introduce you to pollinators that are not well-known at first glance, yet are just as important to nature and life on the planet as their better-known colleagues. Come and meet them and find out what the difference between a wasp and a thistle is. This year, the Czech Union of Nature Conservationists is drawing attention to the decline of insects and wants to inspire you to protect them and the environment in which they live.

The workshop is organised in cooperation with the Czech Union of Nature Conservationists.

Our bumblebees
When: 10:00-11:30 and 13:00-16:00
For children and adults
Duration: 15 minutes

Bumblebees need us and we need them. The enthusiasts from the Bumblebees PLUS initiative will introduce you to the life of a bumblebee, teach you how to identify their species and give you advice on how to make your garden a bumblebee-friendly environment. Our museum has long been trying to support various pollinator species, especially bumblebees. That’s why this spring we have set up a hive for them in the museum garden. Come and see the bumblebee and maybe be inspired by our example.

The workshop is realized in cooperation with the Bumblebees PLUS initiative.
