The end of the holiday season belongs to the Colour Nine festival. For 18 years it has been bringing music, culture and gastronomy from all over the world to Prague’s Vysočany district.
How do you celebrate a birthday in Spain, Mexico or hot Africa? Prague’s traditional multicultural festival, the Colourful Nine, will celebrate its symbolic coming to age. The Cuban band PRAGASON, BIJOU CAMARA, ATARÉS and a remake of well-known hits in a Latin style will perform with a musical “congratulations”. For 18 years, the festival has been bringing a colourful mix of music, international culture and gourmet delicacies from all corners of the world to Prague’s Podviní Park. The organizer of the festival, the Municipal District of Prague 9, invites you to take a trip around the world on Saturday 27 August 2022.
“I like to remember the beginnings of the festival, which has grown close to my heart and has literally become my child. Now, the festival is celebrating its symbolic coming of age, and as a parent I am very happy that it has grown from a small local event into a musical and cultural event of Prague-wide significance. I appreciate the fact that the festival has retained the pleasant, friendly atmosphere of an event that makes visitors and performing musicians and artists return here every year,” says Adam Vážanský, Deputy Mayor of the Prague 9 Municipal District, which organises the festival every year.
A musical journey around the world
Already a permanent feature of the musical programme of the Colourful Nine is the African singer and dancer BIJOU CAMARA, who, together with her group GUINEE TOUMBOU, is preparing an amazing performance full of African passion and temperament. The band PRAGASON, whose frontman comes from Cuba but has put down roots in Prague 9, returns to the festival stage.
ATARÉS will premiere at the festival, whose repertoire is based on the culture of Africa, Latin America and other exotic countries, spiced with jazz, funk and
reggae. The highlight of the festival will be the concert of CHILLI PAPAS, who will blow you away with their Latin cover versions of well-known hits. They give a touch of the southern temperament to the well-known melodies. On the other hand, Czech folklore will be represented at the festival by a cymbal band.
Delicacies of world cuisine and an exhibition
While gourmets will find something to their liking at the stalls with delicacies of exotic and European cuisines, the accompanying programme will offer a glimpse of the diverse world culture. The festival will offer, among other things, an exhibition of paintings by Ukrainian painters, a fashion show inspired by African folklore and interesting lectures.
