Matějská Pouť, the most famous and most visited fair in the Czech Republic, will take place in 2025 from February 22 to April 13 at the Výstaviště Praha exhibition grounds.
This traditional event offers visitors a wide range of attractions, from classic carousels and swings to modern adrenaline-packed experiences. Among the most popular attractions are the three-story haunted castle, the funhouse, the 80-meter-high chain carousel, various bouncy castles, and bumper cars. For adrenaline enthusiasts, international attractions from the Netherlands, such as Airborne and SuperMouse, will be available.
In addition to the attractions, the fair also offers a variety of refreshments, including traditional treats like cotton candy, sausages, hot dogs, and langoše (fried dough snacks). Visitors can take home souvenirs such as gingerbread hearts, oriental sweets, toys, and jewelry. The atmosphere is enriched by clowns and fairy-tale characters, providing entertainment for both children and adults.
The history of Matějská Pouť dates back to 1595, with the first mentions of this tradition found in the archives of the National Library. Originally, the fair was held near the Church of St. Matthew in Dejvice, but over time, it moved to various locations in Prague before settling in the Výstaviště Praha area in Bubeneč in 1963.
The Výstaviště Praha exhibition grounds were built for the Jubilee Land Exhibition in 1891. Its centerpiece is the Industrial Palace (Průmyslový palác), an Art Nouveau building designed by architects Bedřich Münzberger and Antonín Wiehl. Today, the area hosts exhibitions, concerts, and other cultural events.
Matějská Pouť is not only a celebration of spring but also an opportunity to gather with friends and family in a vibrant atmosphere full of fun and tradition. Every year, it attracts thousands of visitors eager to enjoy the unique experience this extraordinary event offers.
