Autumn in the capital is traditionally dedicated to the light of the Signal Festival, celebration of digital and creative culture, taking place from October 10-13 in Prague.

This renowned festival is celebrating its 12th anniversary! For twelve years, we have been lighting up Prague and connecting contemporary visual art, urban spaces, and modern technology. This year, we will once again illuminate the most beautiful installations you’ve grown to love over the years!

This year’s program:

The 12th edition of Signal Festival continues the Ecosystems project, this time titled Ecosystems II: Journey / Expedition. The theme of the journey, as a metaphor for personal and societal growth and self-discovery, is the central focus of this year’s festival. The journey is not only a key element in many stories, but also a way to confront crises and discover new horizons. Together with the artists, the festival embarks on an expedition into unexplored realms of our civilization, which faces technological changes and future challenges. This expedition will take us to places where new values and paradigms are formed, ones that will shape the lives of future generations.

The festival’s chapters present various artistic projects from around the world. For example, Machinery Missionaries will showcase London’s United Visual Artists studio with their project Strange Attractions. The work Silent Echoes by American sound art pioneer Bill Fontana, which brings to life the silent bells of Paris’s Notre-Dame Cathedral, is part of the Deep Travellers chapter. The Into the Universe chapter will take us from the Egyptian pyramids to Prague Castle gardens with the installation ORB by Spanish studio SpY, while Old Town Square will feature a dynamic LED installation Dimensional Sampling by Chinese-American creator Cao Yuxi. Czech digital artist Filip Hodas will transform the Archbishop’s Palace with a video mapping installation, and Korean artist Seohyo will present her projection Coded Tapestry: Prague in the Riding Hall of Prague Castle, using creative coding to interpret Prague’s structures.

Festival visitors can look forward to 14 main projects and three additional partner installations, which will be spread across two festival routes. This year’s Signal Festival will offer a vibrant mix of light art, sound installations, and interactive experiences.

A companion event to the festival is the exhibition The Red Pill at Trafo Gallery, showcasing contemporary Czech artists working with light technologies. This exhibition expands the festival program and provides a platform for emerging talents in visual arts.

The festival’s curator is Pavel Mrkus, and this year’s visual identity was created by Jan Brož and Jan Novák.
