DART Company: UKIYO / Solo for Real

Power, passion and complexity: the DART Company presents a stunning double bill evening, giving audiences a glimpse into the Berlin-based company’s latest productions. Two international choreographers, Blenard Azizaj (AL) and Fabio Liberti (IT), will present works in which energy and physicality take centre stage.

Act 1: UKIYO
“UKIYO ” means floating, pure world in Japanese. For Japanese Buddhists, it means “the sad world”. It is an all-encompassing word for the endless cycle of life, suffering, death and rebirth from which Buddhists seek to escape.
“UKIYO” is a collection of 8 pure bodies of dancers who seek sensuality in their movements through their performance, with a captivating and boundless pushing of physicality. The piece is a sweating cauldron of brutality, intensity and sensuality, sometimes filled with sorrow, sometimes filled with hope, rushing towards infinity.

Act Two: Solo for Real
Solo for Real has won several awards, including 1st prize for best choreography at the Skopje DansLab international competition. Fabio Liberti’s Solo for Real aims to capture the power of solitude and the effort that the individual puts into his or her struggle with the private while trying to find peace in this overwhelming chaos. The play is based on research into mental illness, which is still under-reported in our society.

DART is a contemporary dance company on the dance platform of Berlin, founded in 2013 by Kinga Varga in Budapest. DART is a dynamically developing company that has performed in more than 12 countries around the world.
in Switzerland, Spain and England. Over 38 productions have been staged this year, ranging from full-length productions to short plays. Her movement form has the softness of classical ballet, and she is constantly exploring new avenues to create a fresh fusion of contemporary dance and acrobatics.
