Nutcracker performances in December

The arrival of December means not only the onset of the long-lasting cold but also the streets dressed in festive lights, the bustle of Christmas markets and the smell of freshly roasted chestnuts. The preparations for Christmas have begun, and the Nutcracker is an essential part of it.

The Nutcracker is a true classic that will be performed in various adaptations in Budapest:

From 26 November to 31 December, the Erkel Theatre will present a fairytale ballet in the tradition of classical ballet, but with a 21st-century twist in terms of dance and visuals.

The Budapest Operetta Theatre will host a classical ballet performance from 18th to 28th of December, starring the graduating students of the Hungarian Dance Academy.

The Nektar Theatre’s adaptation of the classic Nutcracker will be performed in December in a version that is easier for children to understand. The show is aimed at preschoolers and schoolchildren, but the adults who accompany them won’t be bored either.

You can watch a recorded performance of the original Bolshoi Ballet Moscow at the Uránia National Film Theatre on 26 December.

And at the Corvin Cultural Centre, the Szeged Contemporary Ballet will perform on 12 December.
