This autumn, beer lovers can once again experience the atmosphere of Munich’s Oktoberfest in the heart of Budapest. The 12th Oktoberfest Budapest will welcome visitors in early October with freshly tapped Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr festival beers, Bavarian sausages, pretzels, authentic brass-band music and a true beer-garden atmosphere. Admission is free at all venues, and while supplies last, visitors can also take home more than 8,000 original Paulaner Oktoberfest mugs and festival hats.
The tradition of Oktoberfest dates back to 1810, when a grand celebration was held in Munich to mark the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. Since then, the tradition has grown into one of the world’s best-known beer festivals, and Budapest has also embraced the Bavarian spirit with its own Oktoberfest year after year. This year, freshly tapped festival beers will be accompanied by Bavarian specialities, free concerts and traditional German bands to create an authentic festive atmosphere.
The festival will welcome visitors at two main locations in Budapest. Fröccsterasz at Erzsébet Square, in the heart of the city centre, will offer an authentic Oktoberfest atmosphere, while Paulaner Sörkert & Mozi on Margaret Island will feature a large Oktoberfest tent this year, bringing the atmosphere of the Munich beer festival even closer. The Bavarian music programme will feature, among others, Tarianer Spitzbuam, Szomorer Jungs, SWAB, Lohr Kapelle, Takser Spatzen and Werischwarer Burschen.
The special closing event of the festival series will take place on October 3 at Normafa Síház, where an all-night Aprés Ski Soirée awaits partygoers. The hütte party will run from noon until 4:00 AM on Sunday, featuring performances by Bőrnadrágos Banda, Soul-Us, Groove Generation, Quaranteeny and Bihary, among others.
