Sólet Festival

If you’re looking for a Sunday program that combines gastronomy, culture, music and a relaxed festival atmosphere, the Sólet Festival is definitely worth checking out. Held as part of the Week of Synagogues, the event celebrates Jewish culinary traditions through one of its most iconic dishes: cholent, or sólet.

Four different versions of sólet in one place

The main attraction of the festival is, of course, the food. This year, visitors can try four different versions of the slow-cooked classic, each with its own character.

• The Hungarian version is made with smoked beef and goose, pearl barley, beans, garlic and paprika, topped with a boiled egg and pickles.
• The Israeli version combines beef, potatoes and vegetables with a mildly tomato-based, cumin-spiced sauce and a spicy mango amba dressing.
• For something completely different, there will also be a street-food version, served inside fresh pita with creamy sólet, crispy sauerkraut and mildly spicy zhug.
• The most exclusive option is the Hegyalja-style sólet, with only 300 portions available. It is made with goose fat, beans, pearl barley, tender beef brisket and smoked meats, and comes with a traditional sweet cocoa bread.

Food, music and a festival atmosphere

The event is about much more than tasting different dishes. The festival also introduces visitors to Jewish culture and traditions in a relaxed, open setting.

Israeli DJ Lior will provide the music, while Brooklyn Bagel specialties, cocktails and other snacks will also be available. Several well-known personalities will take part as festival ambassadors, sharing their own connections to sólet, food and Jewish traditions.

A family-friendly Sunday program

Families are welcome too, with activities such as face painting for children. While the kids are entertained, adults can explore the food stalls, taste the different versions of sólet or simply enjoy the atmosphere of Városháza Park.

The festival is also a good opportunity to discover Jewish culinary traditions even if you have never tried sólet before.

One of the biggest advantages is that admission to the festival is free and no registration is required. Food and drinks are paid separately. Previous editions priced the sólet dishes at around 4,000–4,500 HUF, although it is worth checking the exact 2026 prices on site. The event will take place even in case of rain, so bad weather should not necessarily ruin your plans.
