The Budapest GipsyFest will be held again from April 3–5, 2025, at A38 Ship and Gödör Klub. The festival first debuted in 2024 to uniquely showcase the diversity of Gypsy music, blending traditional and modern Roma performances. Following its immense success, the event will return for the second time in 2025 with the support of Visit Hungary, bringing vibrant color to the city’s cultural life.
From April 3–5, 2025, the audience can enjoy performances from 20 outstanding bands across two iconic Budapest venues, A38 Ship and Gödör Klub, providing an unforgettable atmosphere. The festival was created by Rostás Mihály ‘Mazsi’, president of the International Gypsy and World Music Network (IGAWNA), artistic director, and founder of the Romengo band. The festival features Hungarian Oláh and Beás Gypsy music, as well as genres like mulatós and pop music. The event offers entertainment for all ages, providing an opportunity for visitors to get closer to Roma culture.
Over the three-day event, from April 3–5, each evening at A38 Ship will begin at 7:00 PM with several amazing concerts, followed by Afterparties at Gödör Klub, running until dawn, with fantastic performances and DJs for lovers of Roma music.
“The goal of Budapest GipsyFest is to preserve the traditions of Gypsy music, present new productions that emerge from these traditions, and promote the diversity of Roma culture. This culture is incredibly rich and diverse, and they want to encourage everyone to participate and enjoy the endless musical and cultural energy represented by Hungarian and international Roma music formations.” (Rostás Mihály ‘Mazsi’, President of IGAWNA)
With a large number of performers and a variety of music styles, the festival will take place at two iconic Budapest venues: A38 Ship and Gödör Klub, featuring outstanding artists such as Kossuth and WOMEX award-winner Lakatos Mónika and Cigány Hangok, the iconic Roma music group Kalyi Jag, mulatós music legend Kis Grófo, and emerging young talents like Lejla and Merci B. Additionally, one of Serbia’s most famous Roma bands, Bojan Ristic Orchestra, and MazsiMó-GipsyMó, which fuses traditional and modern sounds, will also perform.
The Budapest GipsyFest offers an incredible communal experience where Roma hospitality and joy of life meet high musical quality and cultural experiences, all with an international perspective.
