The TAKO restaurant in Budapest offers taco lovers authentic Mexican flavours and a friendly atmosphere. The menu offers a varied selection of tacos made with fresh ingredients to satisfy all tastes. The organisers of the TAKO workshops have had the idea and have opened their permanent space, TAKO. MANU+ has moved on and been replaced by another street food favourite, where the focus is on the monofood concept, i.e. not a lot of dishes, but fewer and more varied items. There are three tacos to choose from, meat, vegan and vegan, plus a dessert, olives for starters and a soup with the succulent, succulent meat that goes in the taco. The meat, birria, from the federal state of Jalisco, is first cooked in a spicy broth until crumbly, then torn into strands and served on the house taco with purple onions, cilantro and four types of house salsa, all seasoned with lemon. The vegan and vegan tacos come with strips of cabbage instead of meat, and the vegan tacos come with a side of fresh button mushrooms, plus both come with a side of fenugreek bean puree. The drinks menu is also based on the principle of quality over quantity: they have a Passau batch of beer in the fridge, an imported Austrian maté tea for non-alcoholic, and a light, slightly spicy new wave vermouth from Barcelona. TAKO has become a niche because it’s the only place in Budapest where Mexican street food is served with everything made in-house, from the tortilla base to the various sauces, so it’s worth checking out and checking back.
