Festive Book Week

One of Budapest’s most beloved cultural events returns this June as the 97th Hungarian Book Week takes over the city center for four days filled with literature, author meetups and outdoor programs.

During the festival, Vörösmarty tér, Vigadó Square and the Danube Promenade transform into a huge open-air literary hub with book stalls, stage talks, concerts and thousands of visitors browsing among the latest releases.

For decades, Hungarian Book Week has been one of the country’s most important literary celebrations, bringing together publishers, writers and readers in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere right in the middle of Budapest.

One of the best things about the event is how naturally the day unfolds: you might stop for a book signing, stay for a discussion with an author, then end up listening to live music while walking along the Danube at sunset.

More than 170 exhibitors will be present across the three locations, offering everything from contemporary fiction and poetry to children’s books, art publications and new releases.
