Tantuny is an authentic street food dish, so we can also recommend it to people who don’t like to try new foods, because it tastes very similar to gyros, but you still get something extra. Tantuny originated in the Anatolian city of Mersin, and the place is already known as the home of the dish, and is still one of the city’s most famous products. You can taste the spicy meat wrapped in a flat flatbread in a popular neighbourhood, at the beginning of Krúdy Street, next to Mikszáth Square. At first glance, it looks no different from the other Turkish, Greek and Arabic fast-food restaurants in the capital, but from the outside you don’t see the usual meat tower, as the meat is prepared on a deepened disc. The menu also includes two soups and three starters, a couple of desserts, including the much less sweet Azeri baklava. All in all, tantuni is everything you would expect from a good street food: juicy, filling, quick to prepare and, thanks to the right seasoning, the taste experience stays with you for a long time.
