If you’re looking for a cozy coffee shop in Budapest, steeped in literature, then you should definitely visit the Hadik Coffee House. Located on Bartók Béla road, the café enjoyed its heyday in the 1910s, when prominent figures of the Hungarian literature scene, Karinthy, Kosztolányi, Déry, Móricz and Aranka Bőhm were frequent visitors to the place. Then, in 2010, it was revived as two catering and cultural spaces. The classic Hadik Café pays homage to its traditional literary roots, while the Szatyor Bar and Gallery reinterprets the bohemian world of the turn of the century in a more progressive, contemporary atmosphere. Today, both Hadik and Szatyor regularly host a variety of literary evenings, art talks, musical performances and exhibitions. Besides the lively café life, the great coffee, cakes and excellent food are also worth a visit.
