This year, the Folkpark Dance House Festival celebrates its fifth anniversary. One of Hungary’s largest traditional dance events will once again transform Budapest Park into a vibrant celebration of folk music and dance for an entire night on August 21.

Folk music has been part of Budapest Park’s programme since 2019, and since 2021, the entire venue has been taken over by folk music and dance for one special night each year. This year’s anniversary event will begin at 10 PM, following Bagossy Brothers Company’s folk-inspired concert Csillag az égen, and the festivities will continue across three different dance floors.

What makes Folkpark special is the opportunity to experience several different folk music and dance traditions in a single night. Three bands, three distinct musical worlds and eight dance instructors will make sure that even those who are new to the world of traditional dance houses can confidently join in.

Three bands, three musical worlds

Live music will play throughout the evening across the three dance floors, with three unique formations providing the music for dancing:

  • Sarjú Banda will bring the traditional folk music of the Carpathian Basin, offering an insight into the rich and diverse traditions of Hungarian folk music.
  • Romano Drom will perform authentic Roma music. Their sound combines Roma cultural and musical traditions with a contemporary approach, creating a distinctive atmosphere.
  • Zurgó Ensemble will fill one of the dance floors with the lively sounds of Moldavian folk music. The energetic rhythms of Moldavian melodies are sure to get the audience moving.
You won’t be alone on the dance floor

If you have never been to a traditional dance house before, there is no need to worry. Eight dance instructors will be there to help participants learn the steps and join in the dancing.

The dance floors will feature Attila Fülöp and Mónika Füleki, Zoltán Makula and Bori Busai, Norbert Busai and Zsuzsanna Busai, as well as István Berecz and Kincső Szabó.

Folkpark is therefore not only for experienced dancers. Beginners are more than welcome to join, learn the basic steps with the help of the instructors and, before long, dance alongside the rest of the crowd.

A summer night that could easily turn into dawn

The anniversary Folkpark Dance House Festival promises to be a true summer night experience. With live folk music under the stars and three dance floors running simultaneously, everyone can find the musical style that suits them best.

The event is organised in collaboration with the Táncház Association, and it can be a great choice for anyone looking to step away from the usual concert and nightlife experience and spend the evening surrounded by music, dancing, community and Hungarian cultural traditions.

If you are coming with a group, it is worth taking advantage of the 3+1 ticket offer: for every three tickets purchased, the fourth ticket is free. Guests under the age of 22 can also attend the event with a discounted ticket.

Folkpark combines the atmosphere of a concert, a traditional dance house and a community event – all in one night and across three different musical worlds. And once you get into the rhythm, there is a good chance that the summer night could easily turn into dawn.
