Heartwarming and visually stunning community event will once again bring light to the heart of Budapest.
On Saturday, October 31, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Heroes’ Square will host the 18th Pumpkin Lantern Festival. For years, this beloved event has been one of the city’s most popular autumn traditions — a celebration that combines creativity, joy, and the spirit of giving.
The square will be illuminated by hundreds of beautifully carved pumpkin lanterns, while visitors dressed in festive costumes can enjoy the Halloween atmosphere together with family and friends. The festival also carries a special mission: to highlight the importance of helping others. Participants are invited to bring non-perishable food donations to support the Children’s Food Foundation, which aids families in need.
Donations can be handed in at the base of the central monument, where organizers will collect and distribute them directly to those in need after the event. The most useful items include sugar, oil, rice, pasta, beans, lentils, jam, canned food, and sweets. Please note that, due to food safety regulations, homemade donations cannot be accepted.
Participation in the Pumpkin Lantern Festival is free of charge, and everyone is welcome to place their own carved pumpkin on the square for others to admire. Organizers kindly ask all visitors to help maintain the cleanliness and safety of the area and to take their pumpkins home after the event. No commercial activity is permitted during the festival.
