Theatre lovers can watch the Margaret Island Theater’s latest musical this Friday and Saturday. The Elisabeth performance tells the story of Queen Sisi’s life and her relationship with Ferenc József, but her relationship with death comes out as the main character.

Young Sisi’s desire for freedom is insatiable. At a ball, her mother announces that her older daughter is engaged to Ferenc József. The announcement is interrupted by Elisabeth’s unfortunate accident. The meeting between the fainting girl and Death changes the fate of both of them. The otherworldly being is unable to take her away, but betrothed to the girl forever. The young Ferenc József falls irrevocably in love with the unbridled Sisi and despite his mother’s prohibition, he marries her. In the woman’s life full of vicissitudes, happiness is a rarely seen guest; his loneliness is alleviated only by one friend, whom he can always count on: Death, whom he asks by the coffin of his beloved son, finally takes his life, but in vain. Finally, the murder weapon falls into the hands of an Italian anarchist so that Elisabeth can find comfort in the arms of her longed-for lover.

The large-scale musical – in which Death takes the lead role and whose character is inspired by poems written by the real Sisi – is considered one of the most popular musical theater pieces; It has been conquering with unbroken success since 1992.
