On June 6, 2026, the world of the barbarians will once again meet ancient civilization at the Cífer-Pác Archeopark. Visitors can look forward to exciting demonstrations of combat, period armor, crafts, and cuisine!
The Romani et Barbari event will transport you to the year 178 AD, to the period of Marcus Aurelius’s second campaign during the Marcomannic Wars. Against the backdrop of tense relations between the Roman Empire and the Quadi, you will learn about daily life, the military presence, and the divided society on the empire’s frontier.
You can look forward to demonstrations of combat, weapons, and life in a legionary camp, tastings of period cuisine, lectures, and music. An interactive guide is available for all ages—a printed booklet that will guide you through tasks, culminating in the construction of a model marching camp.
Representatives of various nations and tribes will be on hand to showcase their traditions and way of life. Roman legionnaires will once again set up their camps, and you’ll get a glimpse into the world of the Celts and learn about the life of the Dacians.
In addition to historical groups, artisans will also be on hand with their products. They will demonstrate their craftsmanship and offer visitors the chance to take home an original period souvenir.
Workshops and interactive games are prepared for both children and adults. As is tradition, you’ll be able to try grinding grain on historic querns, discover how children lived in Roman times, or learn how to spin fiber from nettles. Various fun activities are also prepared for adult visitors, such as holding a shield for as long as possible or throwing a fur pelt for distance.
The event also includes a lecture series. Over the course of two days, experts will present six lectures that will explore the historical context and results of the latest research conducted in Slovakia.
