Papilonia Butterfly House

Immerse yourself in a fairytale world full of butterflies in Papilonia in the centre of Bratislava!

Whether it is a first introduction to nature or a therapeutic relaxation with the opportunity to “switch off” – and being surrounded by more than 150 butterflies is a wonderful experience for young and old alike.

Part of the discovery is the opportunity to observe the life cycle of butterflies, from egg to adult. There’s a good chance you’ll be the one to see a beautiful butterfly emerge from its chrysalis!

You can look forward to seeing butterflies of all colors and sizes, from the smallest to the largest, and in every color of the rainbow! You will see specimens from tropical rainforests from countries from the Americas to Asia.

In the centre of Bratislava they prepared for them rainforest conditions, temperatures reaching 27 °C and 75% humidity.

And you will also see the world’s largest butterfly, the Attacus atlas!

Last but not least, the whole experience is enhanced by the magical Alice in Wonderland fairy-tale exhibition, which makes you feel that you have been transported to a completely different world, at least for a while.

And finally, some interesting facts:

– Butterflies like bright colours and fruity scents

– Wear a yellow t-shirt, wear a sweeter perfume and they won’t be able to tear themselves away from you!

– They get up at 7.30 am and go to sleep at 7 pm 🙂

– Butterflies taste with their feet. They use their feet to determine if the leaf they are standing on is suitable for laying eggs and if the plant is suitable for eating by caterpillars.

– Some butterflies, such as the Monarch butterfly, migrate thousands of kilometres to warmer climates during the winter months

– Butterflies have four wings that are covered with tiny scales. These scales create the vibrant colours and patterns we see on their wings.

– Butterflies are important pollinators, helping to transfer pollen from one plant to another, helping many species of plants to reproduce.

And please remember not to touch them. If they sit on you, and they have sat on us, just wait quietly, they will fly away again.
