The Italian group Domo Emigrantes will perform in Slovakia for the first time as part of the Dolce vitaj festival.

The Domo Emigrantes group was founded in 2009 with the intention of promoting the musical heritage of the Italian South, resulting in music that draws in many ways on the traditions of other nations. The ensemble members’ relentless drive to explore new possibilities of musical language keeps pushing them forward without betraying a viable Italian tradition.

In 2011 they released their first album, Domo Emigrantes. For their second album Kolymbetra, they won the Best Album of the Year in the World Music category at the 2015 Indie Acoustic Project Awards. In 2017 they released their album Aquai, which was awarded in the News category by the Italian authors’ union SIAE.

Domo Emigrantes is the recipient of two major Italian World Music Awards in 2016 (Premio Folkest e Premio Andrea Parodi), and has toured around the world, performing at venues such as Istanbul Music Festival (2015), Los Angeles Warner Bros Studios (2016), Castello Sforzesco a Milano (2017), Amsterdam Concertgebouw (2018), Het Lindeboom Festival (2019) and ‘Expo Dubai in 2020. In 2022, the band won the German folk festival Folk Herbst.

In 2023, they played in Milan with Natalie Merchant, the legendary American lead singer of 10,000 Maniacs, during the concert of her “Keep your Courage” world tour. The event was organised in collaboration with the Prada Foundation.

Their songs are characterised by a constant change of atmosphere and musical tempo, rhythmic passages that testify to the performers’ mastery of technique and the richness of their compositional ideas. The emotional charge of their music can sweep away audiences in all corners of the world, be they folk enthusiasts or listeners enchanted by the rhythmic and sun-drenched music of the Italian South.

Stefano Torre, singer and multi-instrumentalist, continues his family’s musical tradition, comes from Sicily and is a passionate admirer of ethno and folk music. He is constantly improving his skills on several instruments – guitar, mandolin, Sicilian friscaletta, etc. He studied classical guitar at the Istituto Musicale Vittadini in Pavia. He teaches classical guitar and folk instruments at the music school in Lodi. Since 1998 he has been performing in Europe and the United States, thanks to his collaboration with many European and South American musicians.

Filippo Renna, percussionist and singer-songwriter, has been fascinated by the rhythms of Salento, where he grew up, since he was a young boy. He learned to play the tambura, and is proficient in the musical technique of Pizzica dance. His collaboration with folk groups from Puglia (Terre Neure, Rumasuje) gave birth to his desire to transform musical tradition, to create new arrangements and to compose pieces based on the age-old customs of the people living in the villages and towns.

Andrea Dall’Olio, originally from Lecco, was led to music by the courses on the electric organ under the direction of Maestro Sergio Todeschini. He also became his violin teacher. He graduated from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and then continued his studies under the supervision of Maestro Claudio Mondini. He took part in advanced courses led by Francesco De Angelis and Francesco Manara. As a professional player, he collaborates with the Academy of La Scala in Milan, with whom he has performed in the most prestigious Italian theatres such as La Fenice in Venice, the Grand Theatre in Brescia, La Scala in Milan and under the batons of conductors such as Yuri Temirkanov, Daniele Gatti and Gianandrea Noseda. Since 2015 he has been playing in the Antonio Vivaldi Orchestra. His repertoire transcends genres, moving from classical music to blues, from jazz to folk.

Filippo Renna: vocals, percussion

Andrea Dall’Olio: vocal, violin
