The Nutcracker

Great news! The Royal Classical Ballet returns to Slovakia with the most famous Christmas ballet “The Nutcracker”.

After the great success with “Swan Lake”, all ballet, dance and classical music lovers can look forward to another unforgettable performance.

However, due to the busy schedule of the European tour, they will play only 3 performances in Slovakia.

Peter Iľjič Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is the second most famous ballet in the world in terms of recognition and number of performances. It was first performed on 18 December 1892 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg.

The story takes place on Christmas Eve at the home of Doctor Stahlbaum with his wife and children, daughter Maria and son Franz. Maria’s godfather, Drosselmeyer, brings her a present, a puppet of a soldier named Nutcracker, about whom he tells her a beautiful story.

The gala evening ends and the guests disperse. Marie returns to the living room to take another look at the Nutcracker left under the Christmas tree and suddenly everything starts to change. The tree grows and with it the room turns into a huge hall. The toys as well as the Nutcracker come to life and mice appear in the room, led by the Mouse King. They are confronted by the brave Nutcracker with a small army of Christmas toys. Marie will not abandon her hero and helps him.
