One of the most important musicals by Karol Svoboda, as well as one of the most important musicals of the Czech musical scene, is coming to Bratislava on 16th and 17th January 2025.
The musical Dracula by Karel Svoboda is based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel about the infamous vampire, but it follows the story very loosely. The story is set in the 15th century, the 19th century, and an indeterminate near future. The musical premiered in 1995 in Prague, Czech Republic, and quickly became a hit. The music was composed by Karel Svoboda, and the lyrics were written by various authors, including the well-known Czech playwright and lyricist Zdeněk Borovec.
The musical mixes rock, classical and gothic music, adding to the dramatic experience, which reflects the dark themes of the story. The production is known for its impressive special effects, including elaborate sets and lighting.
The year 2025 is no coincidence, as Dracula will celebrate 30 years since its premiere. Times change, but Dracula remains a phenomenon among musicals.
The musical Dracula was seen at the Palace of Culture (now the Congress Centre) in 1995-1998 by a record 1.2 million spectators, which is an unprecedented and unsurpassed Czech musical record! It has subsequently been performed in Slovakia, Seoul, South Korea, Poland, Germany, Russia, Belgium and Liechtenstein. Almost immediately it was named Czech musical of the century.
In Tipos Arena Ondrej Nepela Bratislava, the musical will feature songs such as: “Vím, že jsi se mnou”, “Nespravedlivý Bůh” or “Jsi můj pán”.
