Take the kids to the theatre for an adventurous puppet classic about the hidden hero Popolvár on Sunday 16 March at the Bratislava Puppet Theatre.
An adventurous puppet classic about a hidden hero. An ugly duckling among men. And among the Slovaks. Dobšinský’s cult story about a smug sloth and his transformation into “the greatest in the world”. How is it possible that the disgrace of the family becomes the star of the country who saves the princess even from the blackguard and his limitless power? Popolvar is a mystery. Or is it not? Maybe he just didn’t believe himself and no one believed him.
An adventurous puppet show about looking at oneself as well as others, about self-esteem, pride and crooked mirrors.
The Slovak classic was taken up by the creators of the legendary Czech theatre Buchty a loutky. They have unconventionally, humorously and boldly combined two versions of this story: Popolvar’s ugly face and Popolvar the world’s biggest.
