Petržalka May Festival

The Petržalka May Festival is back, and due to its huge success, it will last not one, but two days! Celebrate the arrival of the month of love by raising the maypole, cooking and tasting goulash, browsing the craft markets, and—above all—enjoying plenty of musical entertainment, this time featuring big-name stars from abroad.

Friday, May 1, will feature a goulash cooking contest, folklore, and entertainment for the little ones. Throughout the day, kindergartens and elementary schools, as well as children’s and adult folklore ensembles such as Hájenka, Poleno, Všetečníci, Lúčka, SZUŠ Macharova, and ZUŠ Praha, will sing and play to set the rhythm. You can look forward to the actual raising of the maypole, accompanied by music from the Ekonóm Folklore Ensemble, starting at 3:30 p.m.

The finale of the first day will feature the winner of the 2014 Košice Golden Treasure, the pop-rock band Iconito. Following them, the renowned Poddukelský Artistic Folk Ensemble (PUĽS) will showcase their talents.

The second day of the Petržalka May Festival will be just as spectacular. It kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with a children’s program featuring Miško s Líškou, Talostan, and performances by Petržalka dance schools. In the afternoon, you can look forward to famous hits by The Beatles and Miro Žbirka performed by The Beatle Heart’s Club and the Miro Žbirka Tribute. The band Neon Fever will provide a musical journey from the 1980s to the present.

The highlight of the evening will feature two musical guests from abroad. The first will be a cult band from the United Kingdom, followed by legendary guests from the Czech Republic.

Throughout both days, visitors will have access to craft markets offering small gifts as well as stands serving tasty snacks. And while the adults feast and chat with friends, the kids of Petržalka will be able to let off steam to their hearts’ content in the NERF arena, on electric cars, and in creative workshops. The Petržalka Library will also be there.

Thanks to the support of the city district, admission to the event is FREE.
