The German pop music icon is coming to Bratislava on October 6, 2025! You can look forward to a two-hour concert featuring her greatest hits, including 99 Luftballons, Leuchtturm, Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann and best of all, in the intimate atmosphere of the Majestic Music Club.
The greatest hits:
🎈 1. “99 Luftballons” (1983)
Her most famous hit – an anti-war song in which she imagines how 99 balloons could cause a global conflict. The English version, “99 Red Balloons,” is just as iconic.
🌃 2. “Leuchtturm” (1983) (Lighthouse)
Another popular hit from her debut album, this dreamy, optimistic song remains a classic at her concerts.
💔 3. “Nur geträumt” (1982) (I Was Just Dreaming)
Her breakthrough single in Germany—a catchy new wave love song that brought her into the spotlight.
🌟 4. “Irgendwie, irgendwo, irgendwann” (1984) (Somewhere, sometime, somehow)
One of her most popular songs, later recorded as a duet with Kim Wilde in 2002, which became a hit again.
✨ 5. “Wunder gescheh’n” (1989) (Miracles Happen)
A deeply personal ballad inspired by the birth and death of her first son – considered one of her most emotional songs.
Some interesting facts:
🎈 Nena was born Gabriele Susanne Kerner on March 24, 1960, in Hagen, West Germany. “Nena” was a childhood nickname she got during a vacation in Spain – “Nena” means “little girl” in Spanish.
🌍 Her hit “99 Luftballons” (1983) became one of the biggest German pop songs of all time. The English version, “99 Red Balloons,” also topped charts around the world, which was a rare achievement for a non-English song at the time.
🎸 Nena was one of the most important artists of the Neue Deutsche Welle (New German Wave), a German pop music movement inspired by new wave and punk in the early 1980s.
🌟 Unlike many stars of the 1980s, Nena’s career did not end with her early hits. She has successfully reinvented herself several times and continues to release music, perform concerts, and maintain a loyal fan base in Germany and beyond.
🌿 In addition to music, Nena has also worked on other projects, such as recording the German version of the voice of the dragon Saphira in Eragon and appearing on various television shows. She is also known for her holistic lifestyle and interest in alternative education.
💖 Some of her children and stepchildren have also become musicians, and she is often praised for inspiring new generations of German pop artists.
In Bratislava, the German pop icon will be accompanied by a ten-piece band. The Bratislava concert will be part of her successful Wir Gehören Zusammen tour, which was seen by around 150,000 people across Europe in 2024.
