On Saturday, March 22, 2025, Prague will host the traditional Vltava Day, an annual event that symbolically opens the boating season on this iconic river.
Organized by the Vševltavský Association, the event offers a unique opportunity to experience the charm of the Vltava from the deck of various types of boats, enjoy a diverse program, and learn interesting facts about the history and present of river navigation in the capital.
Both on water and on land, visitors can enjoy a full-day program, including sightseeing cruises on passenger boats near Charles Bridge, Na Františku, and Výtoň. History enthusiasts will appreciate the military technology display commemorating the end of World War II, while sports enthusiasts can take part in cold-water swimming or watch a traditional raft journey to Čertovka.
For families with children, a cheerful water sprite-themed performance will take place on the riverbank near Hergetova Cihelna, while art lovers can visit a photography exhibition at Kobka No. 17. The atmosphere will be enhanced by maritime songs performed by the group Matylda – banda de la marina.
The professional segment of the program includes an open day at the State Navigation Administration, demonstrations by the river police and Prague firefighters, as well as a diving equipment presentation and an educational booth focused on health and first aid. Those looking for an active experience on the river can rent rowboats and pedal boats from the Slovanka and Lávka rental services.
Vltava Day also provides access to usually restricted locations. The Museum of Prague Waterworks and the Podolí Waterworks will open their doors, along with the Czech Yacht Club, Yacht Club CERE, Slavia Rowing Club, and the botel Racek.
The event is a great opportunity not only to celebrate the Vltava but also to explore its rich history and significance for life in Prague. Designed for all generations, it promises a day full of experiences, romance, and insights into this fascinating waterway, an inseparable part of the capital.
