Festival Děti, čtete?! 2025 will begin on September 19 and run until October 3 in selected cities across the Czech Republic.
The sixteenth edition of the festival, founded in 2010 by Iva Pecháčková, continues the tradition of shared experiences between adults and children in discovering the world of books. The aim of the event is to present reading as a unique adventure that connects generations and opens space for imagination, dialogue, and creativity.
The festival traditionally features a selection of titles from the Best Books for Children catalog. This year, it will visit not only Prague but also Brno, Olomouc, Plzeň, Havlíčkův Brod, Kutná Hora, and Jihlava. Entry to all programs is free, making literature accessible to everyone.
The program offers a rich variety of activities—from author readings, discussions, and creative workshops to exhibitions, theater performances, music, and performance art. Nearly forty events will feature over thirty authors of all generations and literary styles.
The festival will also host notable international guests. Italian writer Tea Ranno will appear on October 14 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Prague, presenting her novel Tramvaj života, which explores a story from World War II. From Poland, the author duo Ewa Solarz and Robert Czajka will present their award-winning book Pozemšťané on September 20 at Werich Villa. The book uniquely raises fundamental questions about human nature and how people may appear from completely different perspectives.
Czech creators include Petr Nikl, Petr Stančík, Renáta Fučíková, Marek Toman, Petr Váša, Bára Dočkalová, Ester Stará, Silvie Šeborová, and Stanislav Beran, offering a program for children and adults, for passionate readers as well as those just discovering literature.
Festival Děti, čtete?! 2025 thus provides not only literary experiences but also opportunities to explore new perspectives on the world through stories. Its atmosphere, combining the adventure of reading with playfulness and creativity, makes it a unique cultural event that annually inspires thousands of children and parents across the country.
