Christmas magic between art and nature

If you want to visit Vienna during the Advent season and experience the authentic flair of a Christmas market, the Christmas village on Maria-Theresien-Platz is just the place for you. The market is located directly between two famous museums, the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Naturhistorisches Museum, and thus offers the perfect combination of culture and pre-Christmas atmosphere.

Maria-Theresien-Platz is located in the heart of Vienna, not far from the MuseumsQuartier and the Ringstrasse, and is easily accessible both by subway via the MuseumsQuartier (U2) or Volkstheater (U3) stations and on foot from the city center.

The market is usually open from mid-November until Christmas, usually between 11:00 and 19:00 to 21:00. Admission is free, you only pay for food and drinks. At the market, visitors can find traditional handicraft products such as wooden toys, Christmas decorations and jewelry as well as typical Christmas specialties such as mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and sweet treats.

The photo backdrop between the monumental museum buildings is particularly charming, especially in the evening when it is atmospherically lit. Visitors also have the opportunity to explore the museums during the day and then stroll around the market with a mulled wine. The Christmas village on Maria-Theresien-Platz is one of Vienna’s more cultivated markets, which are not overcrowded but still offer everything you need for a classic Christmas atmosphere, making it ideal for a stroll, cultural experiences and Christmas shopping all in one place.
