The exhibition “Machu Picchu: Journey to the Lost City – The Immersive Experience” offers a unique journey into the world of the ancient Inca civilization. Instead of a traditional exhibition with showcases and artifacts, it is a modern experience that uses the latest virtual reality and 3D projection technology.
Visitors find themselves in the middle of the Peruvian Andes and can explore the legendary ruins of Machu Picchu as if they were actually there. The event begins with a themed “travel agency” scene that creates the atmosphere of an adventurous departure. A short introduction is followed by a 45-minute VR journey into the digitally reconstructed Machu Picchu, based on precise 3D scans of the original site. During the experience, participants can move around freely, explore temples, plazas and the surrounding mountains, meet mythical figures and even experience a solar eclipse from the perspective of the Incas.
This international production has already been shown in several cities around the world – including Berlin – and is coming to Vienna in 2025, where it will be presented at the Immersive Center Donauturm. The Austrian premiere will take place from October 23, 2025 to January 11, 2026. The venue is fully accessible and is located at Donauturmplatz 1, 1220 Vienna. The experience is suitable for visitors aged six and over, but is especially recommended for older children and adults. The entire exhibition is multilingual and therefore also accessible for international guests. It is available in: German English French Italian Spanish The organizers recommend comfortable clothing and bringing only small bags, as movement is required during the VR experience. Tickets are available online, especially via the Fever platform, and it is recommended to book in advance as places are limited.
