AfriCult Fest Vienna

You are cordially invited to this year’s African Cultural Festival. Culinary African delicacies and exhibitions of art and fashion await you. Daily children’s programme and many life performances.

afriCult was founded in 1997 by Dipl. Ing. Arch. Remi Ofoedu as the first African festival of its kind in Vienna. The first festival took place within the historic walls of the City Hall on 21 and 22 March 1998. The question naturally arises: Why an African festival in Vienna? The aim was to expand the diversity of artistic offerings in Vienna with African acts from all over the world and at the same time to offer young African artists a platform. Before 1997 there was hardly any suitable ambience for artists of African origin to present their art, their skills, their music, their passion to the Austrian public.

The festival is proof of a successful cultural exchange between Austrians and Africans and other many times, different cultures. Cultural points are successfully underlined each year with a political and media programme.

An important accompanying event of the festival is the dialogue programme, which takes place every year before the festival and addresses a wide variety of topics.
