The city park was opened in 1862, making it the oldest public park in the city of Vienna. If you long for some rest and relaxation right in the centre of the city, the city park is the right choice. On top of that, it is the park with the most monuments and sculptures – above all the famous golden Johann Strauss monument.
The Stadtpark is now regarded as a link between the city centre and the third district: pedestrians approaching the park from any direction will encounter a unique environment. Those exiting the “Stadtbahn” railway pavilions will encounter Viennese Art Nouveau in its purest form. Those entering the park from the third district will find a contemporary steel sculpture by Donald Judd after crossing a hilly section of the park. Approaching Ringstrasse, one must walk through shady paths before arriving at the open park meadows and the popular Johann Strauss monument, the most photographed monument in Vienna
