Sigur Rós

Since 1994, Iceland’s Sigur Rós have been building a world in the world with their atmospheric, grandiose post-rock. A ready-made universe with its own language, rules and aesthetics. A place we didn’t know existed before they created it, and its influence on contemporary popular culture is hard to overestimate. This fall, the band returns to Sweden for two concerts at the Stockholm Waterfront – November 30 and December 1 – backed by a full orchestra. Music simply doesn’t get more beautiful than this.

Sigur Rós’ discography is as rich as the band’s never-ending bank of ideas, but the common thread is that they have never underestimated their audience. Last year, Sigur Rós released their eighth album and first in ten years – the quietly loud Átta. The album was met with rave reviews and by the end of the year it had reached high positions on several year-end charts. On the upcoming tour, the band of Jónsi, Georg Holm and Kjartan Sveinsson will play songs from their entire 25-year career backed by a full orchestra. Anyone who knows their Sigur Rós can certainly imagine how powerful it will be.
