Budapest Crossing by Paddle

Budapest Crossing by Paddle returns in 2026, offering a unique opportunity to experience the city from the Danube. Participants paddle together from the Római riverside down towards the inner parts of the city, combining sport with a shared community experience.

The idea behind the event is simple: Budapest looks different from the water. As you move along the river, the city unfolds in a way you rarely experience from land.

What is it about?

This is not a race but a collective experience. The event also carries a message: the Danube is not just something to look at, but a space that can be actively used. Organizers aim to highlight the need for safe, accessible areas for kayaking, canoeing and other water activities within the city.

The event is organized by the Valyo – City and River Association and its partners.

Program

14:00 – Meeting point and briefing at the Római riverside (Indian Canoe Tours)
15:00 – Start
15:00–17:00 – Group paddling on the Danube
17:00 – Arrival near Dürer Kert
From 17:30 – relaxed social gathering and light refreshments

Participation

You can join with various types of non-motorized boats, including kayaks, canoes and SUP boards. Registration is required in advance.

Safety is a priority: life jackets are mandatory, and participants must follow the instructions of guides and safety staff. The route is supported by trained guides and rescue boats.

Fees and notes

Participation fees cover organization, safety measures and (if needed) boat rental. A simple meal is included after arrival.

Transport of personal boats and travel home are the responsibility of participants.

The event will only be cancelled in case of extreme weather conditions.
