Lectures, exhibitions, music, dance and literature, historical walks and free family programmes, gun shows and horsemen on horseback will fill the renewed Buda Castle District on the national holiday. Most events are free of charge, but pre-registration is required for the more popular programmes.

PROGRAMMES BY THE KATONA HONOURED DEFENCE ASSOCIATION OF BUDAKESI 9:30-17:00 – Hussar song lesson: The Hussar traditional unit will demonstrate the armament of the Hussars and give a formal and combat demonstration. Hussard lessons for children and adults, folk band: the Üsztürü Band. – Recruiting: sword and bayonet drill, recruiting for children, basic training with wooden swords, wooden rifles, paper knives as gifts. – Living history lesson: about the formation and equipment of the Home Army. CITERÁS CATONOMY 11:00 and 15:30 For children – and of course adults! – who attend the “Citerás Soldier’s Music” concert will be able to experience the village life of the 1800s through a selection of folk songs evoking horses, soldiers and swords. All this accompanied by a citera – and sometimes a guitar strumming like a lute – led by Junior Prima Prize-winning citera player Krisztián Dömény and his students. And for those brave enough, they will even be able to try out the instrument!
10:30 a.m. The Rounding Elf has a horse, a cockade and an entertaining jousting puppet show, rounding off with folk songs, instrumental music, parrots and a lot more. Judit Kovács, drama teacher and the creator of the Roundup book series. Our hussar apprentices have to gallop down a wooden horse to complete a tricky obstacle course, where they can slalom down the course and pin a giant cockade. Horseshoe toss: Of course, the daily life of a hussar was not all marching. When they had the chance, they also relaxed, had a rest and, of course, played. They threw horseshoes and chain rings at sticks, while joking and singing. Catch the sword: Swords would fall at random from the huge gate under the direction of the hussar trainer, and the hussar apprentices’ job was to catch them before they landed. The swords are made of plush, so the game is completely harmless, but all the more fun! LOVAS HUSZARJARCHER’S COLLECTION 10:00-17:00 The hussars that appear in the Palace Quarter in Buda Castle are reminiscent of the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence. The cavalry hussars of the National Cavalry Unit of the Republic of Hungary and the Hungarian Hussar and Traditional Hussar Association will perform their duties in the spirit of preserving our national defence traditions and cultural values.
Honvéd parade patrol service – Chikós yard – Main Guard – Lion’s yard – Chikós yard on the route of the infantry parade patrol, to the accompaniment of drum and string musicians, hussar parade procession PROGRAMMES WITH THE COMMUNITY OF THE KATONA HORSEMEN’S GUARDIAN ASSOCIATION OF BUDAKESI 9:30-17:00 – Hungarian Home Guard camp at the statue of Csikós: 3 camp cannons, 4 artillerymen and 6 Home Guard infantrymen in full equipment.
– Imperial camp at the Stöckl steps: Imperial artillery with 4 artillerymen and 6 infantrymen in full equipment – The Hungarian infantry and the Imperial infantry patrol the Tickler’s Court, during which they give combat demonstrations and engage in combat. The infantry will also attack enemy artillery, forming continuous battle scenes. ARMS AND ARMAMENT SHOW AND FIGHTING POINT With the participation of the Budakeszi Military Traditionalists Association – Arms and fighting demonstration The Hungarian Defence Traditionalists will demonstrate the armament of the Hungarian Army and give a display of uniforms and fighting skills.

Tickler’s Yard stage NIGHT DANCE PERFORMANCE WITH LIVE MUSIC 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 Dancers and musicians of the Dezső Fitos Company will perform popular music and dances of the time.
12:30, 16:00 Csaba Katona’s history lecture “Known and unknown heroes of the 1848 Revolution and War of Independence” Everyone knows the events of the 1848 Revolution and learns the names of its heroes. But how many people do we know who were outstanding in their field, but we don’t necessarily mention them in connection with 1848? The lecture by historian Csaba Katona will present the world and roles of the most well-known and unknown or forgotten protagonists of history. All the programmes of the Tickler’s Court are free of charge, no pre-registration required! In case of bad weather, the programmes will be held in the Riding Hall and the High Guard. Our event is open to the press and photos and videos of participants will be taken. – Historical walk 11:00 and 14:00 Guided walk through the sites of the 1848-49 Revolution and War of Independence in Buda Castle. We will see the building from which the revolutionary crowd freed Mihály Táncsics, learn how Heinrich Hentzi reinforced the defences of the Castle and how Artur Görgei prepared the attack, and also how the siege of May 1849 took place.) Participation is free of charge, but pre-registration is required and can be requested on the official website of the Budaivarsetak. The walks will take place outdoors and will be held in case of bad weather, so we recommend dressing appropriately for the weather! Visitors will be able to see the wonders of the new St. Stephen’s Hall and the accompanying exhibition, as well as the Hauszmann Story. Due to the expected high interest, advance online booking is recommended, and only a limited number of tickets will be available on site.
