The Bell Jar Play

Organized by the Freeszfe Association, you can see a special play on Sunday at Trafó House. The performance deals with Sylvia Plath’s novel The Bell Jar, starring Boglárka Koós and Márton Birta. The autobiographically inspired story on the one hand presents the stages of becoming a woman with ruthless honesty, and on the other hand, it is an impression of the period of transition between adolescence and adulthood full of uncertainties. An elemental formulation of inner fears and the search for self-identity.

We try to tell you what it’s like when we can’t tell. When a person cannot eat, sleep or read. But we also have other stories to tell, such as femininity, strange parties, unapproachable men and rich women writers. To this day, suicide and the desire to do so are a crazy taboo, a condition that is difficult to accept, and which also affects those who live in privileged circumstances. Those who are insightful, young and talented like Esther Greenwood. Sylvia Plath’s cult novel is a devilishly accurate account of alienation.
