Budapest Classical Film Marathon

From September 15–20, the Budapest Classical Film Marathon will be held for the ninth time, welcoming movie enthusiasts for six days with restored classics, special highlights from film history, and exciting professional programs.

The festival will offer around 100 screenings at several iconic cinemas across Budapest:

• Uránia National Film Theatre
• Toldi Cinema
• French Institute
• Art+ Cinema, as well as outdoor screening locations.

• Queen Budapest – September 15, Uránia National Film Theatre – opening film, 4K-restored version, world premiere
• The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain
• Thelma & Louise
• The Match of the Century
• 80 Hussars
• The Hate
• Ashes and Diamonds
• The Pianist

Other festival sections include Andrzej Wajda’s Films, Mathieu Kassovitz’s Cinema, Mohsen Makhmalbaf’s Films, Female Vampires, Hungarian Rhapsodies, Open Archives, From the Wild West to the Wild East, Intrigue and Love in the East, as well as a selection dedicated to The Road to the 1956 Revolution.

One of the highlights of the festival will be the 4K-restored version of the iconic film documenting Queen’s legendary 1986 Budapest concert, which will be screened as the festival’s opening film.

The Open Archives section offers a unique insight into the work of film archives around the world, showcasing rare films and newly restored works. The screenings will be complemented by discussions, workshops, and professional events, while special student screenings and interactive programs will also be organized for younger audiences.
