“Stone-Hearted” Musical

On the Margaret Island Open Air Stage, we can once again see a masterpiece this week. “Stone Hearted” (Kőszívű), based on the novel by Mór Jókai, is a really promising romantic, historical musical. The performance takes us back to the 19th century, during the War of Independence. The piece’s main themes are independence, patriotism, love, self-sacrifice, and honor, but revenge and immorality that affect people and history alike also appear.

The premiere of the musical STONE HEARTED (Kőszívű) – the legend of Baradlay – will be held on June 17 and 18, 2022 at the Margaret Island Open Air Theatre. The joint performance of the Margaret Island Theatre and the MusicalNeked Production will be staged with particularly beautiful melodies and with visuals never seen before, specifically produced for this event.

The impatient anticipation of musical fans is no mistake, as in addition to the well-known creators, the lavish cast and the romantic big stage venue also predicts a successful performance. The authors of the piece are: Szente Vajk, Attila Galambos and Levente Juhász, director: Szente Vajk, producer: László Szabó. In the main roles: Miklósa Erika, Lilla Polyák, Pál Feke, Béla Szerednyey, Erika Náray, Tamás Veréb, Márk Ember, Tibor Fehér, Gyopár Kovács, Kinga Katona, Sándor Nagy, Attila Serbán, Sándor Berettyán, Zoltán Barabás. And those in charge of the visuals: set designer Tamás Rákay and costume designer Yvette Alida Kovács. Musical director: Károly Katalin, choreographer: Túri Lajos Péter.

The Margaret Island Theatre is happy to work with productions for whom the preservation of Hungarian values and the Hungarian past is as important as to the theatre. Last year’s joint presentation of Puskás, the musical, is a good example of this, which commemorates a Hungarian legend, a sports idol. This year, the history of the three Baradlay brothers, Ödön, Richard and Jenő, reveals the invincibility of the Hungarian nation striving for its independence, the Hungarians who respect family, friends and friends, and the invincibility of true love.
The world of Jókai, presented on the stage of Margaret Island, is also a hit: since the events of the Reformation come to life in a musical form in a place that Mór Jókai himself marvelled at. The writer wrote in superlatives about Margaret Island: “Budapest’s fairy garden! A piece from paradise – without the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden. (…) That is why it is called the camaea of the capital, which is a gem in itself, the value of which has been invaluable by artistic decoration. ”

The musical will be staged on two evenings – July 17 and June 18 – at the Margaret Island Theatre. On the 18th of June an additional program will enrich the evening: The Stonehearted Festival.
If you want to meet the creators in person, to learn about the historical and artistic background of the musical, you can do so at the Stone Heart Festival on Saturday, June 18, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Margaret Island Theatre. The event is an audience meeting where spectacular dance lessons, a historical performance, a costume demonstration and a craft workshop await those interested.
