Sakura weekend

TWO SAKURA SUNDAYS IN THE BOTANICAL GARDEN – When the Japanese cherry trees bloom in the Botanic Garden, visitors can picnic on a blanket in the garden and enjoy the Sakura trees in bloom, as is the Japanese custom.
The weekend’s activities will include a variety of Japanese martial arts demonstrations, a Japanese traditional weapons exhibition, a Japanese drum band demonstration, a literary evening, a Japanese kokeshi doll workshop and exhibition, Go instruction, Japanese music concerts, a manga show and a subculture meeting. Poems submitted for the haiku writing competition will be read in the garden.

Haiku-writing competition
In connection with the Sakura holiday, the Botanic Garden is holding a haiku writing competition. A haiku is a poetic sentence of a few words, a poetic essence of a poetic experience in seventeen syllables. The intimate, intimate love of nature is emphasised in the content of the haiku. The poets of haiku have tried to capture the curious, the strange, the peculiar in nature, in human existence, and to translate it into short, few-word, telling and even more suggestive poetry. The haiku has no title. There is no rhyme at the end of each line, but there may be a prefix. The most important thing is a sincere poetic tone.
