Queen Elizabeth and the Hungarians. Friendship or love? – book launch. Barbara Káli-Rozmis will present her new book Queen Elisabeth and the Hungarians on 11 November at 18:00 at the Nightingale Event Event Hall (1011 Budapest, Fő utca 41.). The book is already published but will be available at the venue.

For us Hungarians, one of the most interesting questions is the relationship between the Queen and Count Gyula Andrássy, which is still the subject of countless speculations and legends. That is why the book focuses on Count Andrássy, who was part of Queen Elisabeth’s life from January 1866 until his death on 18 February 1890. It is a slight exaggeration to say that at the time of the Reconciliation, a little bit of everyone was in love with Gyula Andrássy.

Two extraordinary people met on 8 January 1866. It was cold outside and snowflakes were falling when the Austrian Empress, flushed with excitement, received the Hungarian delegation, led by Count Gyula Andrássy, at the Vienna Castle. From the very first moment, the two had a powerful influence on each other, and they soon formed a close bond that stood the test of time in a complex atmosphere of intrigue. The reader is left to wonder whether this special relationship was friendship or love, and how the other two parties most involved, Franz Joseph I and Countess Katinka Kendeffy Andrássyné, viewed it. At the same time, the subtitle also refers to the Queen’s relationship with her husband, which has been interpreted in many different ways.
