One of the best ways to spend a summer evening is watching a great film under the open sky. Budapest once again offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the magic of cinema in parks, along the Danube, and even in historic surroundings. From classic movies and romantic comedies to international arthouse films, there is something for everyone to choose from.

Budapest Garden – Free Movies Under the Stars

Budapest Garden is once again hosting one of its most popular summer programs: free outdoor movie screenings. The films start at 8:30 PM, and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The organizers recommend arriving at least 30–40 minutes before the screening starts.

Street food, popcorn, nachos and drinks are also available at the venue. It is worth bringing your own blanket, although the Garden also provides blankets while supplies last.

Bikás Park

In August, Bikás Park in District XI will once again transform into an open-air cinema for a few special screenings. Organized by B32 Galéria és Kultúrtér, all screenings are free, so all you need is a blanket and a pleasant summer evening.

Városháza Kertmozi

Located in the courtyard of Budapest’s City Hall in the heart of the city, Városháza Kertmozi is a great choice for those who prefer a somewhat more traditional cinema setting over a picnic-style outdoor screening in a park.

Seating at Városháza Kertmozi is also available on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is worth arriving early.

Mozisziget on Margaret Island – Free European Films

From August 9 to 25, the grassy grounds of the Margaret Island Athletic Center will once again host Mozisziget, an open-air film series organized by EUNIC Hungary. What makes the series special is its focus on films from European countries, offering audiences the chance to discover lesser-known international productions instead of Hollywood blockbusters.
